Bieler's Broth
Share
Around the New Year we are bombarded with so many diets. Many diets have to do with deprivation but in this post, we are going to highlight Bieler’s Broth: a nourishing, mineral rich broth that focuses on restoration rather than deprivation.
Dr. Henry Bieler, who developed this broth, was a doctor in the early-mid 1900s. He was a pioneer in his field in promoting food as the best medicine. He called this broth “internal spring cleaning”, but it does so gently, not through harsh or shocking cleansing. We are often depleted of minerals during the winter months due to reduced sunlight, less fresh, seasonal produce and minimal contact with the soil.
This broth is not only warm and delicious, but it contains essential minerals, balances pH (a balanced Ph supports essential bodily functions like digestion, metabolism, and hormonal production) in the body, and nourishes to a deep cellular level.
This broth is high in essential vitamins in minerals like:
1. Potassium which regulates fluid balance, muscle function, nerve signals, and metabolism.
2. Magnesium is needed for muscle and nerve function, energy production, bone health, and heart health.
3. Calcium for healing, nerve transmission and muscle function.
4. Trace minerals which are nutrients like iron, zinc, copper, selenium, iodine, manganese and chromium. The body needs these in small amounts for various physiological functions.
5. Chlorophyll is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It also detoxes and improves skin health.
6. B vitamins are essential for energy production, brain function, formation of red blood cells, and more.
Because all of this is in this power-packed broth, it goes a long way to support the liver, adrenal glands, thyroid, kidneys and more!
This broth can be used as a base for your favorite soups or be made in a large batch and kept in the fridge to sip on during the week!
Other fun ideas are to throw in some garlic, ginger or turmeric for added immune boosting! You can also substitute bone broth for water for extra gut-healing benefits.
Also be sure to use high quality local and/or locally grown vegetables.
